Knee Bracing

At Arthritis and Injury Care, we have a large variety of knee braces to help rehabilitate and care for many different knee conditions. Among some of the most common conditions for knee braces are osteoarthritis, ligament strains (ACL, MCL, LCL, & PCL), patellofemoral syndrome, and meniscal injuries. Depending on your condition, symptoms, and needs, our braces can be used to offload the joint (or reduce stress on the joint), provide stability and support, help align the patella, and/or provide compression. All of our braces contain rigid material.

Patella Femoral

FAQ

To care for your brace, we recommend hand washing it with a mild detergent and warm water, then laying it flat to dry away from direct sunlight. This method helps ensure its longevity and prevents damage to the materials. For braces without metal components, you can wash them in the washing machine on a delicate cycle, but we advise against using the dryer. When your brace is not in use, make sure to fasten the Velcro straps properly to avoid unnecessary wear and store it in a dry, well-ventilated area. Taking these steps will help keep your brace in great condition!

Wearing compression stockings depends on your specific medical condition and healthcare provider’s advice. For issues like varicose veins or chronic venous insufficiency, they are typically worn daily from morning until evening. After surgery or following a blood clot, they may be required for several weeks or months. During pregnancy or travel, they can help reduce swelling and prevent clots. Athletes may wear them during or after exercise for muscle recovery. It’s important to ensure a proper fit and follow care instructions to maintain effectiveness. Always consult a healthcare provider for personalized recommendations on compression level, type, and duration of use.

How often you should wear your brace depends on its purpose. For post-operative recovery or after an acute injury, braces are often required to be worn at all times or as directed by your physician or surgeon. In cases like osteoarthritis or to prevent reinjury, bracing can be worn during activities that put strain on the affected area. Our team is here to guide you through proper usage and is available to answer any specific questions you may have during the process.

Compression stockings help improve blood circulation, reduce swelling, prevent blood clots, and alleviate discomfort in the legs. They are often recommended for individuals with varicose veins, during long periods of sitting or standing, or for those recovering from surgery.

An OA unloading knee brace alleviates symptoms of Osteoarthritis, particularly in the knee, by redistributing weight away from the affected joint. This shift in load reduces stress and pressure on the damaged area, leading to significant pain relief and improved stability during movement. As a result, people may experience increased mobility and activity tolerance, allowing them to engage in daily activities with less discomfort. These braces also encourage proper alignment and posture of the knee joint, preventing further deterioration and promoting healthier movement patterns for long-term benefits.

A medical referral/prescription is not needed to see a Brace Specialist, Pedorthist, Podiatrist, or Dietitian. However, most insurance companies require a medical referral/prescription in order to reimburse for services and/or products purchased. We will work with patients to collect all insurance information needed.

If a patient needs to see one of our Orthopedic Consultants then a medical referral would be required by a physician. This allows for them to see the appropriate specialist at the appropriate time, which can also help to reduce wait times.

An appointment is not required. An appointment will guarantee that patients are seen at the time scheduled but we understand that circumstances do not always allow for this and we will make sure we accommodate all our customers and patients.

We are a private company whose services are not covered by MSI or Medicare. Part or complete service and/or product costs are often covered under most insurance plans. At the Arthritis & Injury Care Centre we will help to obtain all coverage information for the patient and will bill directly any companies that allow it. This includes private insurance companies, Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB), Community Services, and more

Appointments with our Orthopedic Consultants ARE covered by MSI/Medicare.

As a service to eliminate any confusion, the Arthritis and Injury Care Centre offers to contact the patient’s private insurance company, to find out all specific insurance coverage details on their behalf.

If estimates are required by an insurance company, to determine coverage, an estimate will be sent at no charge.

The Arthritis and Injury Care Centre will bill directly all insurance companies and policies that allow for this service. We will walk patients all the way through this process either way.
